"By Her Roots" - In Production (Nova Scotia)
Tracing your family history has become not only an extremely popular past time but also the basis for many television programs and series.
I have chosen to travel back in time through my own DNA while researching
what was happening
in the world around my ancestors as the events in their lives were revealed
to me. The first date I have proof of was in 1749 during the founding of
Halifax, Nova Scotia. "The Search For Peter Martin" has unearthed
some very interesting facts about living as an immigrant at the beginning
of a country and why his grave along with his death records have been "lost"
all these years...until now?
"The Search Of a Rebel" - In Pre-production (Ireland)
The arrival
in Nova Scotia of Wexford Ireland ancestors during 1799-1800, right after
the 1798 rebellion, has taken me to the 'Rebellion Papers" and the
trial of William Johnson.... is he my William Johnson?
"Eleanor"
After 15 years in captivity the door flew open. Her husband, King Henry, was dead. At last! Knowing her son, King Richard would release his mother they let her out, but the jubilant feeling of freedom was quickly overcome by sadness and anger at the loss of the man she loved to hate.
Why have so many been fascinated by the story of Eleanor of Aquitaine, one of the richest and most powerful women in medieval history. At a time when women handed over their wealth and power to their husbands Eleanor struggled endlessly to hang on to hers. What triggered her rebelliousness? Was her love/hate relationship with her younger husband Henry the cause of her rebellious plots? Did her upbringing in her Grandfather’s Courts of Love create an eternal desire for the ideal of romance and love? What about all the scandals? Was the character of Guinevere, written by her contemporaries, inspired by the rumors spread by powerful and angry men?
Traveling throughout France and England, from castle to castle, I want to document the life of this notorious and powerful woman to see where she lived and loved and what motivated her to be so outrageous. I also hope to discover what effect she had not only on our legends in literature but also how she attempted to change the way women, rich and poor, are treated even today.
